Vegetarian Crocodiles

Vegetarian Crocodiles? You Better Believe It!

What is unusual about the reptiles that live at Nyanyana crocodile farm?
Something unusual about the crocodiles is that there are 164,000 vegetarian crocodiles and that the vegetarian crocodiles have skin that is softer and more supple than those that eat meat.

How did they turn this way?
They started feeding the reptiles with pellets that were a mix of meat and vegetables. After noticing that the change in diet did not seem to deter the reptile's growth, they gradually eliminated the meat completely and are now raising crocodiles that are 100% vegetarian.

What are the crocodiles being bred for?
the reptiles are bred for their skin, which is sold to European tanneries where it is transformed into leather and sold to fashion houses like Hermes and Gucci to make expensive handbags, shoes and belts.

Student led conference

How did it go?
My conference went good because the year has only just started and I have a new teacher that my mum doesn't really know and thanks to the conference she does we talked about my learning and who I worked good with and not so good with and if i'm good and maths, and not reading but good at writing or good at reading and good at maths but not writing and it turns out that i was better at reading and writing then maths.

What was it like having them in class?
It was good having my mum is class because she learnt stuff about me when I'm at school and how I learn and about my friends in class and the people I work good with and the people I don't work good with. I felt different when my mum was in class with me because I talk and play around with my friends but if I did that when my mum was around she would tell me to get on with what I am supposed to be doing.

What did they like about the process?
My mum liked that me and my teacher we organise for everything and that my teacher talked about things my mum didn't know about me before and that she nows what stage i'm in for my reading writing and maths.

What did you like?
I liked that my mum now knows what stages I am in for my reading writing and maths and that my conference was last so I had more time to talk to my mum and teacher about my learning.

What would you/they like to do differently next time?
I wouldn't like anything to change.
